Learning to socialise can be daunting and scary for many kids, especially when in a new environment like starting school. Humans are by nature social creatures so you will be doing your children a huge favour by helping them to have the confidence to make friends and interact happily with other children.
Here are some tips to help your child feel at ease with meeting new people:
~ Remind your child that the other children are probably just as nervous.
~ Visualise with your child how much fun it will be having a new friend to play with after they get over their initial nervousness.
~ Share some of your happy playground triumphs and experiences. Children love to learn through stories.
~ Most importantly give your child love and validation so that they will naturally develop the self-confidence they need to feel at ease with others.
