Valentine kids

With the sweetest day of the year approaching, why not plan a special date with you and your child(ren). We all like to be spoilt by our beau on Valentine’s Day. But turning it into a family day can be a lot of fun. You may even start a new family tradition, too.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

Dress the Part

The first thing to do is to buy your child a very special outfit for the day. Be sure to incorporate a “love” theme, even if it is just picking a pink or red outfit. Be sure mum and dad, who will also be on this special date, look good, too. You will want to make sure your child knows just how important showing love is.

Plan a Day at the Park

Pick a park or an outdoor area that your child loves and make this a special day of play. Keep the phones off and just spend time together. It’s you and your little family. There’s no need to worry about the people around you or what needs to be done. Make this day all about showing love for each other. Playing a few games in the park or going for a long walk is a good way to do this.

Deliver Special Messages

If your children are older, have them create special cards for his or her favourite family members, such as grandparents or aunts and uncles. Then, on Valentine’s Day, allow your child to spend the morning delivering that special message to those very special people. Doing this in person is ideal. You can greet each of your child’s favourite people with the card and perhaps some home baked cookies or something special. You don’t need to visit long, but just drop off these special gifts. It’s the perfect way to show love.

Pick a Place to Eat

Let your youngster choose the perfect place for a meal. He or she may want to stay in and have a favourite meal prepared. That’s fine, too. Set the table to be special, though. Perhaps use candles and a beautiful tablecloth.

Enjoy a Fabulous Dessert

Let the rules go for the day and let your child enjoy a fabulous dessert. Sit together one more time on this special day and chat about the day over dessert. What does your child think of the day?

Mum and dad can really enjoy a Valentine’s Day when it includes an opportunity like this to really unwind and just have fun. Showing your love for each other doesn’t need to be expensive. Quality time goes a long way with kids… But mummies might also like  something sparkly. 😉
